Evik Amy Scores Season-High 27 Points in Buccaneers Loss

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, February 8, 2026 – University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Junior Forward Evik Amy scored a season-high 27 points in the Buccaneers' 86-81 loss to Dillard University on Sunday evening at Albert A. Dent Hall in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Amy, who erupted for 20 points in the first half, made seven of nine attempts from the field and six of eight from three-point range. The 6-foot-6 forward hailing from Edmonds, Washington, contributed to half of his team's points during the opening period.

As a team, the Buccaneers shot a remarkable 48.4% from the field and 47.1% from three-point territory in the first half, as their offensive efficiency allowed them to control the pace of the game early on. The Buccaneers led by as many as nine points in the first half and took a 40-34 lead into halftime.

The Buccaneers maintained their energy and effort as they emerged for the second half, initially retaining control. However, the momentum began to shift in favor of the Bleu Devils as they tied the game at 46. Despite a subsequent offensive surge that put the Buccaneers ahead 60-53 with 11:03 remaining, a 9-0 run by Dillard allowed them to capture their first lead of the night. The Buccaneers found themselves trailing by 10 points but mounted a spirited comeback, with freshman Joshua Rodgers narrowing the deficit to just three points with 30 seconds left. Unfortunately, two successful free throws by Dillard extended their lead to five, and a missed three-point attempt by the Buccaneers sealed the victory for their opponents.

Graduate forward Brandon Rasmussen finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, and four assists, falling just one rebound short of a double-double. Defensively, Rasmussen also recorded four steals.

For Dillard, Devin Lewis led the team with 18 points.

The Buccaneers are set to face Dillard University once more on February 9 in their regular-season finale, aiming to secure a victory and build momentum ahead of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference Tournament, which commences on February 24. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.
