UVI Men’s Basketball Team to Compete in YES HBCU Classic
St. THOMAS, VIRGIN ISLANDS, December 10, 2025 – The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) men's basketball team is set to compete in the 2025 YES USVI HBCU Classic at the Digna Wheatley Gymnasium at Eudora Kean High School in St. Thomas from December 11-13. This fifth annual tournament will showcase eight teams from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
This year's tournament will feature familiar opponents for the Buccaneers, including Dillard University, Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO), St. Thomas University, and Wilberforce University. The University of Fort Lauderdale, Virginia Union University, and Fort Valley State will round out the field.
UVI, a late addition to the tournament roster, will be returning to the classic after not participating in the 2024 edition. Their first matchup is scheduled against Virginia Union on December 11 at 1:30 p.m.
