Denny Gonzalez Named NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete
ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands, March 22, 2026 – University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) student athlete, Denny Gonzalez, has been named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Daktronics Scholar-Athlete list. This honor recognizes student-athletes in each winter sport who have excelled academically.
To qualify as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete, students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, appear on the eligibility certificate for their sport, and have attended their institution for at least one full year.
Gonzalez, a 6-foot-6 forward, is a distinguished member of the men's basketball team at the UVI, where he has proudly represented his hometown university throughout all four seasons in a Buccaneer uniform. A native of St. Thomas, he is currently a senior majoring in Applied Mathematics. Gonzalez is among the 659 men's basketball athletes to receive this prestigious honor.
Overall, the NAIA has recognized 3,143 Scholar-Athletes across all winter sports, including basketball, bowling, competitive cheer, competitive dance, swimming and diving, and wrestling.
