Brandon Rasmussen Earns HBCUAC Weekly Honor

ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS, December 1, 2025 – University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) men's basketball student-athlete Brandon Rasmussen earned the title of Historically Black Conference and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Newcomer of the Week and was recognized following his selection by the conference voting committee on Monday afternoon.

Rasmussen is the first Buccaneer to receive the HBCUAC weekly honor this season. Last week, the graduate forward delivered two respectable performances, the first a 14-point, nine-rebound, and four-steal game in the Buccaneers' first win of the season, and the second a 21-point, seven-rebound, and four-steal game against the 25th-ranked team in the country, Keiser University.

Standing at 6-foot-5, Rasmussen is in his first season at UVI after transferring from the University of North Florida. The St. Croix native currently averages 14.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. This two-way player also contributes significantly on the defensive end of the floor, where he averages 2.3 steals per game and one block.

Joining Rasmussen in receiving weekly honors from the HBCUAC is Raymond Reece of Philander-Smith University, who was named both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week.
