UVI Men’s Basketball Team Drops Back-to-Back Games in South Carolina

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA, January 11, 2026 – The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) men's basketball team fell to 2-9 after dropping consecutive games against Morris College and Clinton College in South Carolina to open the second half of the season.

Morris College
In the first game of the weekend, UVI initially took the lead but would find itself trailing 35-28 at halftime. Despite falling behind by as many as nine points in the second half, a strong offensive effort allowed the Buccaneers to secure a 59-57 lead with 3:47 remaining in regulation. However, the offense would stall, and the team failed to score in the final three minutes, resulting in a 64-59 defeat.

Graduate forward Brandon Rasmussen led the team with 14 points, three steals, and two blocks.

Clinton College
In a tale of two halves, the Buccaneers were in control during the first period of play, taking a 29-25 lead into the locker room at halftime. A second-half collapse, however, would allow Clinton College to take the lead and pull away to secure the 81-52 victory.

The loss marks just the third double-digit loss for the Buccaneers this season.

The Buccaneers will conclude their three-game road trip on January 12 in Denmark, South Carolina, facing Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) foe Voorhees University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
