Former Lady Buccaneer Keshara Romain to Compete with Virgin Islands National Team in FIBA Play

ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS, July 10, 2026 – Keshara Romain, a former standout of the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Women's basketball team, is set to represent the Virgin Islands as a member of the Women's Senior National Team at the 2026 FIBA Women's AmeriCup Centrobasket Qualifiers. The tournament will take place in Managua, Nicaragua, from July 12 to July 18, 2026, at the Alexis Argüello Sports Complex.

Romain, a native of St. Croix, played one season at UVI, returning home to compete for her local university last fall. During her stint, she averaged an impressive 11.4 points, 14 rebounds, 2.2 steals, and 3.4 blocks per game for the Lady Buccaneers. Her exceptional play earned her the titles of Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Defensive Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week in just the second official week of the National Athletic Intercollegiate Association (NAIA) season.

Romain last represented the Virgin Islands Senior Women's National Team in November 2025, when she took a break from the Lady Buccaneers to compete in the Caribbean Basketball Championships (CBC). The USVI National Team excelled in the tournament, securing the championship with an undefeated 4-0 record.

The Virgin Islands National Team, with Romain, will begin their campaign on Sunday, July 12, facing Puerto Rico, followed by matches against El Salvador and Guyana on July 13 and 15, respectively, in the group phase. The tournament will culminate in the elimination rounds, with the championship game scheduled for July 18.
