Kashay Bass Earns HBCUAC Preseason Honors
ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS, October 22, 2025 – Kashay Bass, a women's basketball student-athlete at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), has been selected for the All-Historically Black College and University Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Preseason Second Team by the Conference Voting Committee.
Entering her fourth and final season with the Lady Buccaneers, Bass started all 17 games last year. As a junior, the forward averaged 9.5 points per game and scored in double digits eight times, including two standout 16-point performances against conference rivals Oakwood University and Philander Smith. The 6-foot post player also excelled in rebounding, averaging 7.4 rebounds per game, and achieved season-high 20 rebounds against Wiley University, where she also scored 11 points to secure a double-double.
The Atlanta, Georgia native, Bass made her presence felt defensively, averaging 2.1 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. She ranked in the top 15 in the HBCUAC for steals per game and in the top 10 for blocks per game. Her defense was highlighted by two five-steal games against Wiley and Talladega, and a three-block performance against Philander Smith.
A pinnacle of Bass's season came when she was named Defensive Player of the Week for February 17-23.
Joining Bass on the Preseason All-HBCUAC Second Team are D'mya Ferguson of Dillard University, Trenisha Adams of Oakwood University, Makayla Tucker of Wilberforce University, and Makaila Brown of Tougaloo College.
Bass aims to elevate her performance to earn a spot on the All-HBCUAC First Team at the conclusion of the season. Her campaign for this honor begins on October 24th, as the Lady Buccaneers open their season against St. Thomas University at the Fernandez Family Center in Miami, Florida.
