UVI Lady Buccaneers Open Road Trip with Loss to Fisk

Nashville, TN, February 8, 2024 – The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Lady Buccaneer basketball team opened its three-game road trip with a loss to conference foe, Fisk University, on Thursday night, 80-40, at the Henderson A. Johnson Gymnasium in Nashville.

In the game, UVI (1-15, 1-11) struggled offensively and excessive turnovers contributed to the lopsided contest in favor of the Lady Bulldogs who controlled the game wire-to-wire.

Freshman guard Ashukamayah Phillips led the Lady Bucs on offense with a game-high 18 points.

On the other end of the floor junior guard Mia Davis showed well in the stat sheet as she recorded seven rebounds, two steals, and a block.

For Fisk University, A'niya Young had 16 points to lead the way.

The Lady Buccaneers will continue the second leg of their road trip as they head to Huntsville, Alabama to take on Oakwood University. In the last matchup between the two teams, the Ambassadors came out victorious at the Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center. Tip-off is at 6:30 CST and can be streamed on Channel 120 of the HBCU+ app.
