ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands – Brittney Smith registered a double-double with a team-high 25 points to go with 14 rebounds in a 80-73 loss to Southern University at New Orleans on the opening night of the UVI HBCU Classic.
Alexia Hood added 22 points while Teliya Johnson had a game-high 15 rebounds in the loss. The Bucs drop to 0-4 on the season.
UVI shot 28 percent (21 of 75) while hitting 8 of 35 from behind the arc (22.9 percent).
UVI led 23-17 after one quarter and 42-36 at the half.
SUNO led 49-48 after three quarters.
The Bucs are back in action at home on Friday at 5:30 against Philander Smith in the UVI HBCU Classic.
