SUMTER, S.C. With double-doubles from Kaeani Berry, Mia Davis, and Kierra Neal, the Buccaneers leave no doubt in this one, handily defeating host Morris College, 52-31, in Continental Athletic Conference women's basketball action.
UVI led wire-to-wire, including leading by as many as 24 points in the fourth quarter. Mia Davis had a game-high 15 points and seven steals, plus 11 boards, including five offensive rebounds. Kaeani Berry answered for her Friday performance with a dominating 17-rebound, 14-point display Saturday afternoon. Kierra Neal completed the double-double trifecta with 12 boards and 11 points, plus a team-high three assists and two blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

With 2:30 remaining in the third quarter, Davis earned a steal and got the fastbreak layup for a 33-19 lead. On the next possession, Neal logged a mean block, leading the way to a Berry basket plus the and-one for the commanding 36-19 lead that all but ensured the win.

Berry and Davis accounted for the final 12 points for UVI in the third quarter, which ballooned a 26-15 lead into a 38-21 advantage entering the final frame.

Early in the fourth, Davis converted one of her steals into another fastbreak layup. That basket gave UVI its first 20-point lead of the game with the score at 42-21. Previously, in the second quarter, Davis gave the Buccaneers its first double-digit lead (22-11) when she grabbed an offensive rebound and scored.

Kashay Bass scored the first basket of the game after corralling the offensive rebound on a missed shot. Baskets from Neal and Davis extended the lead to 6-0 and from there, the Buccaneers never looked back as they took a 10-5 lead into the second quarter.

Incredibly, the Buccaneers held Morris to under 20 percent (10-of-51) shooting from the field.

Berry was five-of-seven from the field, Neal was four-of-nine and Davis made seven of her 16 shot attempts. Dressing only six players, Neal and Davis played every minute of the game.

Bass added eight points and seven boards for the Buccaneers.

UVI turned 28 Morris turnovers into 16 points while the Hornets could only convert 26 UVI miscues into six points.

Both teams struggled at the free-throw line with UVI going 10-of-21 (47.6 percent) at the stripe and Morris 10-of-30 (33.3 percent).
