Lady Buccaneers open outdoor slate at Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational
Miramar, Florida, March 28, 2026 – The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) women's track and field team opened competition Saturday at the Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational, with Sophomore Londyn Hall and Freshman Pilar Swinson making their collegiate debuts against a deep 10-team field at the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Florida.
Hall turned in the top result for the Lady Buccaneers, placing 15th overall in the women's 200-meter dash in 27.12 seconds after finishing second in her heat. She also placed 16th in the women's 100, clocking 12.81 in a field of 29 runners.
Swinson added an 18th-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.17. The Atlanta, Georgia, native was also scheduled to run the women's 100 but was scratched before the race.
The meet brought together a strong collection of South Florida programs, including Florida Memorial, Ave Maria, Lynn, Florida National, Barry, St. Thomas, Nova Southeastern, Palm Beach Atlantic, and Keiser University. For the Lady Buccaneers, the day provided an early benchmark against experienced competition and a first outdoor look at two newcomers in Hall and Swinson.
Hall's sprint double stood out as the team's top individual showing, particularly in her heat performance in the 100, where she finished as the runner-up. Swinson's hurdles race also gave the Lady Buccaneers an encouraging opening mark in her first collegiate appearance.
The invitational, hosted by Nova Southeastern, served as an early-season test for UVI as the outdoor schedule begins to take shape. With two debuts in the books and Senior Long Jumper Aisha Sabur expected to join the lineup soon, the Lady Buccaneers now turn their attention to the Embry-Riddle Running Elements Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida, scheduled for April 2-5 as they continue building through the opening weeks of the outdoor campaign.
